Entry requirements

The entry requirements for Master of Laws (LLM) are as follows: 

  • A 2:2 in a degree from a UK university or an internationally recognised university, in law or a related area of study, or a degree in which there is a substantial proportion of study devoted to law; or  

  • A degree in a non-legal area of study, provided there is sufficient evidence of professional knowledge and experience  

  • Call to the bar or admission as a solicitor in England and Wales or the equivalent in another jurisdiction may be considered equivalent  

English language requirements

To study at BPP, it is important that you are able to communicate and engage in English effectively in an academic setting.

If English is not your first language, you will be required to provide proof of your ability across reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English.

Course structure

Choose an LLM specialism to suit your career objectives, incorporating a wide range of elective modules. 
Core modules(30 credits)

You will study the core module in the specialism in which you wish to qualify. The list of specialisms include:

Financial Regulation and Compliance  - Combining financial regulation and compliance, this core module is taught by two highly respected financial services lawyers, one of whom has worked extensively in compliance. 

The Law Relating to Fraud and Financial Crime - Taught by one of the world’s leading experts in economic crime and is supported by prosecutors and those with law enforcement and regulatory experience.   

Chinese Investment and Business Law - Taught by experts who have had direct experience of working in and with China at all levels, including governmental. It is not necessary for students to have any knowledge of Chinese. 

Transnational Criminal Justice  -Addresses the laws, procedures and mechanisms which allow states to co-operate in cross-border crime. Part of the course involves the use of the civil law in pursuing questioned wealth and asset recovery.   

International Business Law  - Explore the legal environment within which international business transactions take place and disputes are resolved. 

Islamic Finance and Business Law  - Islamic law is of considerable importance in the financial markets and is taught by lawyers with considerable knowledge of the area. It is not necessary for students to have any familiarity with Arabic.   

Comparative Commercial Law  - Explore a variety of legal systems, focusing on how they treat specific areas of law of practical relevance to international business and commercial  transactions.   

Commercial Law  - Focusing on practical issues in English commercial law. It is best suited to students who have already studied contract and tort law from a commercial perspective in a common law context.  

You will also be required to attend a course in Advanced Legal Research and Writing.   


However, in the case of the following:  

Chinese Investment and Business Law; you’ll study two core modules, which are Chinese Business Law and Chinese Finance and Investment Law, and study two elective modules. 

Islamic Finance and Business Law; you’ll study two core modules, which are Islamic Business Law and Islamic Finance, and study two elective modules.

Dissertation(60 credits)

You will complete a 8,500 - word dissertation within your core module in Term 3.
