Apprenticeship Overview

Your pathway to high-level technical ability. With the Level 5 Data Engineer, you’ll become skilled at building, managing, and optimising data infrastructures. You’ll apply your learning in the workplace, creating data pipelines that flow across departments and get to key decision makers at the right time. 

Once you’ve finished the programme, you’ll be adept at applying specialist data skills, from collecting and ingesting data to building comprehensive database systems and data lakes. You’ll also develop highly transferable technical skills such as advanced programming, scripting, SQL, and NoSQL. 

Benefitting from the extensive experience of expert tutors, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge on cloud computing, on-premise and hybrid infrastructures, networks, cyber security, production environments, and data governance. You’ll establish yourself as a qualified expert in storing, processing, and securing large amounts of data, for reliable and actionable analysis.

Who's eligible?

To apply for this Data Engineer programme you must be employed in a relevant role. 

Eligibility can vary depending on the requirements of the individual employer, but typically includes:   

  • Level 3 qualification, such as A Level (or equivalent) in a computer science, data, technology or engineering related subject 

OR 

  • A minimum of 720 hours of technology-related work experience (IT, software or engineering) attested by your manager 

OR 

  • Level 4 qualification in a business-related subject and on a career pathway to convert to an engineering career 

GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) in English and Maths are also required.
