Apprenticeship Overview

Learn how to carry out testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle and ensure the software’s functionality, security, performance and usability all align to your business’ requirements.  

You’ll gain a solid understanding of testing techniques and tools which you’ll then use to prepare test plans and data, execute robust tests, and analyse expected outcomes with results.  

The Software Tester apprenticeship also features practical hands-on projects where you’ll develop the expertise required to excel in testing diverse applications, from mobile apps to enterprise software, as well as supporting the delivery of high-quality software solutions.

The Level 4 Software Tester Apprenticeship is perfect for those eager to begin or advance their careers in software testing. This programme is tailored for individuals who excel in detailed analysis and have a passion for software quality. It’s designed for those who enjoy identifying and solving software issues and are keen on ensuring that software performs flawlessly. 

Suitable roles include: 

  • Software Tester 

  • Quality Assurance Analyst 

  • Test Analyst 

  • Quality Engineer 

This apprenticeship is also suited for IT professionals seeking to transition into software testing from other roles, such as software development or IT support.  

Where will the programme take you?

This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a career in software testing, opening doors for more advanced roles in automated testing, performance testing, and test management, broadening your career opportunities in the software industry. 

Upon completion, you can progress to our Level 6 Applied Digital Technology on our Software Engineering pathway, and then onto our Level 7 MSc Software Engineering Apprenticeship. 

Who's eligible?

Eligibility can vary depending on the requirements of the individual employer, but typically includes:  

  Three A-Levels or equivalent (and GCSE English and maths)   

OR  

  • Significant work experience   

  To apply for this programme you must be employed in a relevant role.
