Entry requirements

The entry requirements for our SQE1 Preparation course are as follows:

  • 2:2 honours law degree that covers the following seven foundational areas of legal knowledge (Criminal Law, Equity and Trusts, Law of the European Union, Contract, Tort, Property/Land Law and Public Law) OR

  • 2:2 honours degree in a non-law subject (or overseas equivalent in any subject) and a minimum of a pass in a GDL/PGDL or CPE that covers the foundational areas of legal knowledge; OR

  • 2:2 honours degree in a non-law subject (or overseas equivalent in any subject) and have obtained a mark of 50% or more in our admissions test on the foundational areas of legal knowledge set by BPP University Law School; OR

  • Equivalent qualifications (such as ILEx/CILEx) - if your qualification does cover all of the foundational areas of legal knowledge, you will normally be required to study the missing topics on a GDL, CPE or equivalent.

English language requirements

To study at BPP, it is important that you are able to communicate and engage in English effectively in an academic setting.

If English is not your first language, you will be required to provide proof of your ability across reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English.

Dive into the FLK legal practice areas. You’ll be introduced to new legal subject areas, while receiving structured revision support for the core areas of law covered in your undergraduate or law conversion course.

  • Criminal Law and Practice (FLK2)

  • Property Practice (FLK2)

  • Wills and the Administration of Estates (FLK2)

Legal Services (FLK1), Professional Conduct (FLK1&2), Taxation (FLK1&2) and Solicitors Accounts (FLK2) will also be covered together with helpful revision materials for the Legal System of England and Wales.

Our internal assessments count towards your university award.

SQE1 Preparation

SQE1 style multiple-choice assessments.

External assessments 

The SQE comprises two stages: SQE1 and SQE2. The cost of the SQE assessment is not included in your course fee, and it is your responsibility to book and pay for the assessments directly with the SRA’s authorised assessment provider, Kaplan SQE Ltd.

Please note, our Cambridge study centre does not qualify for a student visa.

Full-time: our full-time course is taught over four months and you’ll typically receive 10 contact hours per week. In addition to this contact time, you will be required to complete approximately 30 hours of independent learning per week.

Part-time: our part-time course is taught over nine months and you’ll typically receive four contact hours per week. In addition to this contact time, you will be required to complete approximately 10-12 hours of independent learning per week.

A deposit of £350 will need to be paid within 48 hours of accepting your offer on all our courses, to secure your place.

Please note that the SQE is an external assessment, the cost of which is not included in your course fee.
